Belonging

One of the key pieces that I have dealt with my entire life is that of belonging. I have felt like an outsider from the time I was a child.

What I have learned is that we gather proof of our beliefs and we recreate them in the external world.

Particularly in society today we other others and we other ourselves.

Bringing our belonging, I have learned, is an inside game. It is something that we have to decide to do first if we have a story that we've told ourselves that is contrary to that.

I get to decide that whether I look like, sound like, play like anybody else in the room, I belong. I belong here on this planet. I belong as a human being to humanity - just as everybody else in the room, the court, the circle, the team belongs.

Melanie Ann Layer puts it this way,

“Belonging is what happens when we decide we belong and we show up - equal power, but different.”

I belong in every room I walk in. All we need to belong is to choose that we do.
